Born in 1960. Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva in 1986. .

Dr Zurbuchen completed his post-graduate training at the University Hospital of Geneva and was appointed surgical registrar in 1992. He defended his doctoral thesis on the management of colorectal cancer and was awarded the FMH Chirurgie (equivalent of the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training). Concentrating on advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, he became Chef de Clinique en Chirurgie Viscérale ( equivalent to specialty registrar in gastro-intestinal surgery ). In 2000 he went to independent practice and has since then been operating in private hospitals and clinics in and around Geneva..

In 2000 Dr Zurbuchen was appointed as Consultant surgeon to the Clinic of Visceral Surgery, Geneva University Hospital of Geneva (HUG) where he teaches the theoretical and practical aspects of laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery to young surgeons working in Switzerland and EU, at the Centre Médical Universitaire (CMEC).
Member of several medical and surgical societies Dr Zurbuchen meets continuous education requirements by attending international and national congresses and by regularly visiting innovative and reference european surgical units..

In order to preserve the quality and customization of the surgical care in Switzerland he is also member of comitees of the OCGE (Ordre des Chirurgiens Genevois) and of the ASMI (Association Suisse des Médecins Indépendants agréés dans les hôpitaux et cliniques privées).
